I mean&nbsp;seriously, one glass of wine instead of a gruesome hour at the gym?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sounds pretty good to me\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>First off<\/strong> &#8211; I didn\u2019t really take this too seriously, but then&nbsp;curiosity got the better of me and I did some research\u2026The magic ingredient in wine is none other than \u2013 Resveratrol.<\/p>\n<p>Principal investigator Jason Dyck says \u201c<em>We were excited when&nbsp;we saw that Resveratrol showed results similar to what you would see&nbsp;from extensive endurance exercise training<\/em>&#8221; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dyck works in the Faculty of Medicine &amp; Dentistry as a&nbsp;researcher in the department of Pediatrics and the department of&nbsp;Pharmacology. &#8220;<em>We immediately saw the potential for this and thought&nbsp;that we identified &#8216;improved exercise performance in a&nbsp;pill.\u2019<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The team&#8217;s findings were published in the peer-reviewed Journal of&nbsp;Physiology.<\/p>\n<p>Now what does this mean for us? Do we goggle down some wine,&nbsp;don\u2019t exercise and hope for the best?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe\u2026nah just kidding&#8230;. Correct our diet and still do the&nbsp;exercise. Remember 80% diet and 20% exercise. The glass of wine is just&nbsp;a big BIG bonus.<\/p>\n<p>Resveratrol is an antioxidants and is quite exceptional because it can&nbsp;cross the blood-brain barrier to help protect your brain and nervous&nbsp;system.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Studies have shown that Resveratrol has quite a few benefits including:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Protects your cells from free&nbsp;radical damage<br \/>\n\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Inhibiting the spread of&nbsp;cancer.<br \/>\n\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Lowers your blood pressure<br \/>\n\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Keeps your heart healthy<br \/>\n\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Improves elasticity in your&nbsp;blood vessels<br \/>\n\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Normalizes your&nbsp;anti-inflammatory response&nbsp; &nbsp;<br \/>\n\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Helps prevent&nbsp;Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/p>\n<p>\u2026last but not least \u2013 Resveratrol is called the\u201c<strong>The Fountain of Youth<\/strong>\u201d Read all about it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/pub_releases\/2013-03\/hms-nsv030413.php\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an extract from Grain Brain written by Dr D. Perlmutter with&nbsp;regards to Resveratrol and how much you should take:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResveratrol: The magic behind the health benefits of&nbsp;drinking a glass of red wine a day has a lot to do with this natural&nbsp;compound found in grapes, which not only slows down the aging process,&nbsp;boosts blood flow to the brain, and promotes heart health, but also&nbsp;curbs fat cells by inhibiting their development. You can&#8217;t get enough&nbsp;resveratrol in that glass of wine, though. Hence the need to supplement&nbsp;with higher doses to reap the benefits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because this so-called miracle molecule protects cells against a&nbsp;remarkable range of diseases, it&#8217;s frequently touted as an assistant in&nbsp;the body&#8217;s immune and defence system. Within the last decade we&#8217;ve come&nbsp;to learn just how this is possible, thanks largely to the work of&nbsp;Harvard&#8217;s Dr. David Sinclair, who discovered the supplement\u2019s&nbsp;ability to activate certain genes called sirtuins, which affect&nbsp;longevity. In 2010, scientists at Nothumbria University in the United&nbsp;Kingdom published a study in the <em>American Journal of Clinical Nutrition<\/em>&nbsp;that discussed exactly why resveratrol can be so effective in&nbsp;optimizing brain function. In it they explained that they gave&nbsp;twenty-four students resveratrol and recorded marked increases in blood&nbsp;flow in the brain while they were performing mental tasks. And the&nbsp;harder the tasks, the greater resveratrol&#8217;s effect.<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not this means we all should be taking resveratrol before&nbsp;embarking on a serious undertaking like a test or interview is up for&nbsp;debate. But for now we know that we could do our brains well with the&nbsp;addition of a modest dose every day. And note I said modest. Although&nbsp;earlier research hinted that very large doses would be required to reap&nbsp;any benefits (doses equating to drinking hundreds of bottles of wine),&nbsp;newer studies clearly demonstrate that lower doses (as small as 4.9&nbsp;milligrams per day) confer positive effects.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All round the benefits are pretty amazing\u2026Cheers \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-share=\"true\" data-width=\"450\" data-show-faces=\"true\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nice, that\u2019s the kind of research I really enjoy.
